7/1 2010 Guardarrails... Haze Blog
Finally the government have to pay up 120,000 euros to a biker who felled of his Ducati 750 in a water planning accident on the N-340. He hit his legs in a pole holding the rails so hard that an amputation was needed. Its far from what a missed leg is worth, (according to spanish law 240.000 for a young person) but Its better than 0 as It has been for all similar accidents before (306!! in 2008).
A missed leg can't be valued in money, so hopefully this case will start new roadworks, adding new guadarrials all over spain as they started in Navarra who are spending 300.000 2010 for 7.000 meter more rails adding to the 39.000 they finiched 2009.
So please...Stay on the wheels until then..

24/11 Small CC, still f**n fast!
We all know that speed, sound, chrome and power is important and on the list when we are going to buy a bike. If you buy a Harley you will get the sound and chrome for a lot of money.
The power and speed you will get from Japan or Europe.

This little article will focus on the speed factor as many of us believe that a huge engine equals to a fast bike or car. Or that lots of horsepower makes the bike faster.

We know that a full speed Hayabusa will blow your pants off if you stand to close when it pass you. But how fast do they usually go all this fast bikes? 300km/hour? Yea, that's about the limit they usually breaks on youtube etc. And that is fast!
What's your limit? 160? 200? Have you done 250? I have in a car, but on bike, no way.
Lets say you want to do "only" 250-280.. what do you need to get there? A 1400cc? a 600cc? or just a 250cc?

I think you will get a bit surprised if I tell you some of this years track speed records on the motoGP.
On Sepang with 14 curves and 5600 meters track: 125cc/ 227,7km/h Aprilla. 250cc/261,6km/h Aprilla. 800cc/314,6 Ducati.
On a track with all curves!!!

On Estoril, 13 curves and 4190 meter: 125cc/245,6km/h Derbi. 250cc/285km/h Aprilla. 800cc/327,6km/h.

Valencia, 14 curves and 4005 meter:
125cc/230km/h Derbi. 250cc/265,2km/h.
800cc/313km/h Ducati.

etc, etc. What I can see there was no record under 200km/h this year.

So if I would like to go really fast I can just buy me a 125cc and keep my other bike/s for my daily rides under 150km/h. A 250 looks a bit toooo fast 4 me.

12/6 Control of the bike...

Just seen a movie confirming my very own opinion about keeping the sticks in the middle of the bike and not in Hi way position as the only option. Its the "new" stock bike style I don't really understand, my bikes have always had sticks where they should be if you need to stand up or whatever to have full control. Some of my bikes have had hi way pegs mounted as an option, even if I prefer to use the passenger pegs on faster roads.
Anyway, these guys knows bikes, Its Jesse james and HA Frisco explaining the "old style" of riding a bike, when chrome and paint had a secondary function.. Check it out.. and then run to the toolbox..

Had a very long day trying to pay the tax for two of my scooters. Its just 6.40€/year each, but impossible to pay. Was at 2 banks in Fuengirola yesterday, not working. Not possible in Fuengirola. Had to go to Coin today to ayuntamientot, as this was the best option for me, compared to Malaga city or Marbella with hours of waiting. Nop, go to the bank and pay, was the answer in that office. I told them it does not work. Sure It works here in Coin, the lady said. So I went to the bank in Coin, and another, no no. So here I am, still with my taxes unpaid. Have a plan, thouht, there is in some banks machines you can use to pay bills with, they cant say no, so I will try that tomorrow.. ciao haze

Have added my twitter to the site (haze blog) for direct info if someone is interested. Could be used for fast communication. I will advert if I'm going somewhere and if you have an account you can answer as well..

Cardboard bike parts?

Ok, Its time to explain why my bike has a "non stock" cardboard mounted as a windshield. A horror for some and really fun for others.

windsheild

The thing is, I hate when stuff you buy don't work as it should, and that is exactly what happened to me. As I often have to use the motorway a super duper extra expensive windscreen was ordered online from Germany.

Does it fit my 2002 model, I've asked several times. Yes, off course was the standard answer. Ok, It arrived a week later together with some other parts I've ordered. The package was marked Dominator 1999-2002, so far so good.

So next day I went down to the garage to update the bike...
After a quick look I wonder what the f..k they have sent me, the windscreen was in black plastic and for sure not for my bike. And the seat cover I also bought was for an African twin or something.

Ok shit happens, but I hade to go on the road the same day so I ripped a piece off cardboard from a box in the garage and mounted it as an windshield with some adhesive tape and a rubber band. ( 5 minutes of work and free of charge)

wind-sheild

Was it pretty? Nah...
Did it work? Yep, It worked perfectly up to 130, over that, It is leaning slightly towards me.

Ok, Its cardboard, how long will it stays in one piece? Don't really know, this pictures was taken almost a year later and I have later replaced it with another piece from another box. This time without adhesive tape, It stays in place anyway.

I will make one in plastic soon. But It's no hurry, this one works fine, for nada dinero..

But dude, you have to be tuff ; ) to use one...
people talks..

Bad weather today and yesterday and yesterday..!
Not fun for us bikers with this really cold weather hanging around us for weeks. Last week I had to pick up some pictures at Bikers Heaven in El Chorro, not a cloud so I drew away in jeans and leather jacket. When I passed Coin I had to stop and buy an english newspaper, the cheapest one with naked girls on, witch I later put in my pants as a life saver. The coldest in 35 years they say. But hey, we are all really cool now.

22/11 Haze Blog!
Great weather today!!
Will be on the road after 14.00. Have to stay in the garage a few hours to support my sons first upgrade of his scooter engine, from 49 to 70cc.
Anyway if you are a technichal freek and want to learn a little more about your bike and how to set it up, there are a goldmine out there on the web. One example is the University of Padova in Italy:s website for engineering students. About Motocycles Dynamics. If you ever have wonder why the MotoGP guys have so much problems to set up the bikes for a race, you can get some answers here.

Design when it is world class.
Not graphic, but in raw steel. Have added a new page with some of my favourites listed so you all can see some good bike design. These guys are the best, so stay a while and take a look at their sites..
This is it!

Buell 2009

Why Buell changed engines, and why Rotax.
Sports bike drivers don't like air-cooled engines because they lack power and reliability due to the need of a constant flow of air to manage heat dissipation.
So the Buell street riders was looking for much more power then they could get from a sportster to have a chance to compete with all other brands on the track. So it has to be a liquid-cooled engine.
A liquid-cooled motor can operate long time at top performance regardless of riding conditions.

So what did the have in the building, a new developed liquid-cooled revolution engine, developed with Porsche Engineering for the 2002 V-Rod, nahh.. Buell wanted something more compact.

Rotax has worked with Harley-Davidson in the past, providing engines for its military motorcycles so Buell took contact with them and others like Porsche for development of a new engine.

Eric Buell preferred the Rotax team and app. 3,5 year later the work resulted in the new Helicon engine: A compact 72° 1,125-cc V-Twin producing 146 hp at the crankshaft.

HeliconRotax

That is what you get today if you buy a Buell 1125R-CR.

What is what and who can you trust?
I'm thinking about the famous brand Harley Davidson, 105 years old 2008.
New models 2009 are now available, and second hand ones still cost a fortune, even old ones. You buy them stock, but not many owners stays happy with the basic specifications and starts adding new parts soon as they can afford it.

Today you can start building a bike from scratch, instead of buying base models in the shop, around an engine with a bit more power then the original Harley engine can offer.
You have a huge aftermarket with harley-like engines/parts to choose from, some connected with HD, and some not.
Complete engines, ready to fire, cylinder conversion kits, piston kits, cams, exhausts etc.
You probably know them by names like S&S, RevTech, Colony, Kibblewhite, Custom Chrome, Jim's, Andrews and many many others.

You can weld your own designed frame or use an aftermarket one. Rolling Chassies are today a popular and easy way to start a project bike.
You find them i all kind of shapes, from choppers to Old style. Often with frame, fork, steering bar and wheels with brake kits mounted.

The big problem has been to get the bike street legal, and that has changed over the years depending on where you live, and today its possible even in spain.

BUT, It's not a Harley Davidson you have built,
It could be anything as it will be a unique bike, and often its got the builders name on it.

Like "the Jan Anderson bike", or "Buell".

Take Buell for example, a Harley Davidson owned business founded by Eric Buell.
He has hundreds of patents for the development of their air-cooled race bikes and Harley has been providing Buell with custom designed versions of its air-cooled V-twin engines since its inception in 1993.

So you can say that is has been half a Harley Davidson bike over the years.

Or HAS been, even if the brand still is owned by Harley Davidson Company, they 2008 replaced the main part from a HD, the engine, with a Rotax V-twin. So now its really are a Buell.

So if you are going to a HD meeting or will become a HOG or HarleyDavidson Club member, will they let you in??
