Street Legal bikes.
Up to just a few years ago It has been almost impossible to build and
register a home made bike (non stock) in Spain. But now more and more
bikes pass the ITV as street legal bikes.
I Sweden this has been possible
for a long time, other countries as well, we build wild choppers already
back in the 1970:s. So many of us "Guiris" are interested
in how, and If, its possible to import or build an un-stock bike. So
I've asked Ferry about this:

Can you get
a build bike paper/street legal? how does that work in Spain?
- Yes,
we can! To make a long story very short, first we need to contact
an engineer, specialized in this stuff to check the bike we have built.
It´s ride ability, and then a check that all components mounted
on/in the bike is 100% legal.
- If so, he will send his documents made
from the inspection to the Traffico (Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico)
and after a few weeks they will ask us to go to the ITV (Inspección
Técnica de Vehículos) where they will check the bike if everything
the engineer register on the bike still is the same parts. If everything
match the paper we will get the "Ficha Técnica" that we will send to
a "Gestoría" where they will supply us a provisional "Permiso de Circulación"
valid for two months until we get the regular one.
- It sounds easy, but If you not are a proper workshop as Hot Dreams,
with a bike builder title, it gets much more complicated, yea, almost
impossible. That´s, after the good weather, is the biggest reason why
not many guys build their own bikes in our country.

Ok, we are talking soft tails so far. If I like something harder,
can you build street legal rigid frames as well?
- Yea, we do, but this one it´s really tricky. I´will explain it to
you when you want me to build you one : ). Every problem has a solution,
at least in our shop. All other builders can figure this out themselves.
Agree, do you have any financing alternatives for your
bike clients?
We do accept credit cards, where you can do 10% monthly payments
for repairs and shop sales, and we finance our bike sales trough BBVA
(Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria).

The Hot Dream team
The first guy you will meet at Hot Dreams
is Jordi Campano from Barcelona, Spain, who takes care of the retail
sales, paperwork, orders, phone calls and website's. Klaus Veguel from
Mannheim, Germany, will be inside the workshop fixing some Harley's
or customizing them.
And, if you can find the boss Ferry Clot from Barcelona, he will
probably be on the phone, if not creating another unique wild ride
for the next show, or for any other lucky customer. Alex Marí from
Frankfurt, Germany, should be doing some welding here and there, or
building some amazing petrol tank or air filter.

In the early nineties Ferry
rued side by side with his brother Franxa Clot, in their own workshop
Quality Customs in Barcelona, and at the same time working as a mechanics
chief for a Volvo dealership. Too many working ours a day in a very
stressed city made him think it was time to move to a more relaxing
place. With better weather and be able to ride 12 month a year.
And doing just what he always dreamed about: build his own motorcycles.

Ferry opened Hot Dreams Marbella in January 2002 and have built bikes
and been traveling all over the world since then, to learn from other
builders and competing against them. And as a biker builder world champion,
show the old spanish custom market a completely different workshop
style where all bikers now can realise their motorcycle dreams. Since
that day all spanish biker magazines have published more and more spanish
build bikes, mostly build by Ferry and Hot Dreams, and that makes him
feel really happy and encourages him to keep doing things his way.
